Best Battery Backup for Small Homes (2026)
For a small house or condo that needs the fridge cold and the internet up through an outage, we’d buy the Bluetti Elite 400. Its 3,840 Wh runs a 100W average load for about 27 hours, and it rolls from the kitchen to the bedroom on wheels.
Our Picks at a Glance
| Unit | Capacity | Output | Hours at 100W* | Expands To | Weight | Price | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bluetti Elite 400 | 3,840 Wh | 2,600W, 120V | About 27 | Not expandable | About 86 lb, wheels | ~$1,399 direct ~$1,449 Amazon |

| Jackery HomePower 2000 Plus v2 | 2,048 Wh | 2,400W, 120V | About 14.6 | 12 kWh | 41.45 lb | ~$1,069 | HomePower 2000 Plus v2 on Amazon |
| EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic | 1,024 Wh | 1,800W, 120V | About 7 | Not expandable | About 27 lb | ~$499 | DELTA 3 Classic on Amazon |
| Bluetti Apex 300 | 2,764.8 Wh | 3,840W, 120V or 240V | About 20 | 19.35 kWh | About 83.8 lb | ~$1,498.98 | Apex 300 on Amazon |
*Hours at a steady 100W, using the planning formula in Bluetti’s Apex 300 manual: capacity times 95 percent depth of discharge times about 90 percent inverter efficiency, divided by the load plus about 20W the unit uses itself. The formula and its 20W self-draw come from the Apex 300’s manual and are approximate even for that unit, so treat every row as a planning estimate.
What a Small Home Needs From a Battery
In a small home without central AC or a well, the job shrinks to a refrigerator, a modem and router, some lights, phones and maybe a laptop. All of that plugs into a 120V outlet, and for those loads the gap to watch is hours: about 7 on the DELTA 3 Classic at a 100W average, about 27 on the Elite 400.
Output matters at one moment: startup. A fridge compressor can pull 2 to 4 times its rated watts for an instant, per Bluetti’s Apex 300 manual, so a fridge that runs at 150W may ask for 600W. Every unit on this page has at least 1,800W of continuous output, three times that.
The exception is a house on a well. Well pumps often run on 240V, which none of the 120V units can supply. That home needs the Apex 300 or one of the larger systems in our whole-home battery backup guide.

Our Picks
Bluetti Elite 400
The Elite 400 holds the most energy of the four units here, close to double the HomePower 2000 Plus v2 in one box. It switches over in 15 ms, and Bluetti doesn’t cap pass-through output to the input wattage; the Jackery, by contrast, limits AC output to 15A while it’s plugged in. Solar input tops out at 1,000W, so an empty battery needs about four hours of sun at that full rate to refill.
Best for: A condo, apartment or small house that wants a full day or more of essentials from one box, with no installation.
Skip if: You may want more capacity later. It takes no expansion batteries, and at about 86 lb it rolls well but doesn’t carry up stairs easily.
Jackery HomePower 2000 Plus v2
Start with 2,048 Wh at 41.45 lb, light enough for most people to carry, and add Battery Pack 2000 Plus v2 units up to 12 kWh when outages get longer. Note the pack name: Jackery says the original Battery Pack 2000 Plus doesn’t fit this model. The Apex 300 grows further, to 19.35 kWh, but the Jackery is the less expensive base to build on. Plugged into the wall, AC output is capped at 15A, about 1,800W, and the full 2,400W comes only on battery.
Best for: A small home that wants to spend less now and build toward multi-day backup.
Skip if: You need 240V; Jackery says the v2 can’t pair for it.
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Classic
It’s the least expensive unit here, and at about 27 lb the lightest, small enough to keep on a closet shelf. It recharges from the wall to 80 percent in 45 minutes, and its 10 ms switchover keeps a modem and router online when the grid drops. Storm Guard in EcoFlow’s app tops it up when severe weather is forecast.
Best for: Short outages, an apartment, or keeping the internet and phones going overnight.
Skip if: You want the fridge cold through a full day; 1,024 Wh won’t cover a typical fridge for 24 hours, and it takes no add-on batteries.
Bluetti Apex 300
A physical switch sets the Apex 300 to 120V or 240V, and its 14-50R outlet can feed a transfer switch for a 240V pump. It’s the only one of the four picks that makes 240V. Bluetti publishes no surge figure, and its manual says motors may start at 2 to 4 times their rated power, so check your pump’s starting draw against its 3,840W output in 240V mode before you rely on it.
Best for: A small house on a well, or one with a 240V load that has to run.
Skip if: Everything you need runs on 120V; the Elite 400 holds more energy for less.
Which Backup Is Cheapest for a Small Home?
To keep the internet up and the fridge going overnight, the DELTA 3 Classic is the least expensive unit on this page, at about 8 hours for that fridge and a 20W router together. If staying online is the only goal, a battery UPS sized for a modem and router is smaller still; our UPS guide compares three. Gas generators are the other route, covered in generator vs. battery backup.
In a townhouse where the HOA bars a generator, see battery backup for townhouses. The two larger 240V units, the DELTA Pro 3 and the F3800 Plus, are in our best home battery backup systems guide.
How We Picked
We compared capacity, continuous output, expansion, weight and price for a small home, plus 240V output for one on a well. Specs come from each maker’s product pages, manuals and FAQs. Prices were read on Amazon and bluettipower.com on October 25, 2026. We have not tested these units hands-on. Our editorial policy explains how picks are made.
